Do Not Worry! You Are Not Paying Substack!

This Is Not A Legal Record

Hello everyone,

I just encountered another rocky patch on the journey to independence from Substack. Some of you who pay for your subscriptions might have noticed a payment going out to "corsent.substack.com".

This is not a payment to Substack.

You are seeing this because I set up my Stripe account when I enabled paid subscriptions on Substack, and Stripe gave my account the name "corsent.substack.com" by default. It's purely an identifier, and I can change it. I should have changed it weeks ago! And now I have. Future payments will appear on your statements as "This Is Not A Legal Record."

I disconnected my Stripe account from Substack (i.e., removed Substack as an authorized application) on December 26. No payments on or after that date go to or through Substack. If you are a paid subscriber, not a penny of your money goes to Substack anymore.

I pay Buttondown a flat monthly fee to host my newsletter. Buttondown does not take a share of subscribers' payments. For this reason, I am grateful for the financial support your paid subscriptions provide; they keep this ship afloat.

Thank you for staying with me as a tie up these loose ends!
